Ram Aur Shyam to Sita Aur Gita, 8 Films Based on Telugu Movie Ramudu Bhimudu

Ramudu Bheemadu was a Telugu language film produced by D. Ramanaidu under the banner of Suresh Productions and directed by Tapi Chanakya. The film starred NT Rama Rao, Jamuna, Lakshmanan Vijayalakshmi. The music of the film was composed by Pendayala Nageswara Rao.

The film was based on two characters Ramudu and Bhimudu, who look alike and are fed up with their respective lives. They coincidentally replace each other in their homes, the results of which are hilarious.

The film was released in 1964 and was a huge success at the box office. The film is also considered a trendsetting venture that eventually became the inspiration for several films with a similar storyline. Here is a list of movies based on a similar plot

1. In 1965, the film was remade in Tamil language by the same director and named as Enga Veettu Pillai. It starred MG Ramachandran and Saroja Devi, SV Ranga Rao, MN Nambiar, Ratna and Pandari Bai in supporting roles.

The film is about two identical but opposite twins separated at birth, and what happens when they cross paths. The film was a huge box office success, ran for over 25 weeks in theaters and became a Silver Jubilee film.

2. Ram Aur Shyam, a Hindi comedy drama directed by Tapi Chanakya was released in 1967. Dilip Kumar played the dual role of being separated at the birth of twins. The film was the second highest grossing Indian film of 1967.

3. In 1972, Sita Aur Geeta, a Hindi comedy-drama, was written by Salim Jadav and directed by Ramesh Sippy. The film starred Hema Malini as identical twins who were separated at birth and grew up with different temperaments. Dharmendra and Sanjeev Kapoor were also in the male lead.

4. In 1973, a Telugu comedy-drama film Ganga Manga was directed by Tapi Chanakya with the same plot in which Vanisree played a double role as Ganga and Manga.

5. In 1974 Tamil language film Vaani Rani directed by Tapi Chanakya was directed. The film was a remake of Sita and Geeta.

6. In 1976, J. Ajayanam Vijayanam, a Malayalam film directed by Sasikumar and produced by KNS Jafarsha, hit the theaters. The film stars Prem Nazir, Lakshmi Sukumari, Kaviyoor Ponnamma and Adoor Bhasi in lead roles.

7. In 1989, Chaalbaaz was released with a single storyline around twin sisters Anju and Manju, who are separated at birth. The film was loosely an adaptation of the film Sita and Geeta. The film was directed by Pankaj Parashar.

8. In 1995, the Kannada romantic drama Mojugra was written and directed by Sogasugar Vijay. In this film, Vishnuvardhan appeared in dual roles, along with Shruti and Sonakshi in other important roles. The film is a remake of the 1964 Telugu film Ramudu Bheemudu.
