NEW DELHI: Bharatiya Kisan Union leader Rakesh Tikait Told on Saturday that from July 22, 200 people will protest nearby Parliament, in view of the ongoing farmers’ protest.
Speaking to ANI, Tikait said, “If the Center wants a discussion on agricultural laws, we are ready for talks. But, if the talks don’t happen or yield fruitful results, from July 22, our 200 people will protest. Will do. Near Parliament.”
Tikait said on Thursday that farmers are ready to talk to the government on agricultural laws, but made it clear that the discussion should take place without any conditions. Tikait was responding to Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar’s remarks that the government was ready to hold talks with the protesting farmers to discuss other options.
Speaking about the Republic Day event this year, Tikait today said, “We did not say that we would raise the issue of new agriculture bills. United Nations. We had answered a question on the incident of 26 January. Is there any agency here that can do a fair investigation? If not, should we take this matter to the United Nations?”
On Republic Day, protesters did not follow a pre-determined route and broke barricades to enter Delhi, clashed with police, and ransacked property in several parts of the national capital during farmers’ tractor rallies. They also entered the Red Fort and hoisted their flags from its ramparts.
Farmers have been protesting since November 26 at various borders of the national capital against three new agricultural laws – the Farmer Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020; Farmers Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Agricultural Services Act 2020 and Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020.
