Rajya Sabha Elections: What is Rajasthan Congress keeping, BJP MLAs busy in resorts – Antakshari, Yoga and Sports

Limited Congress MLAs and independents backing the party engage in “antakshari”, sports and other activities at a resort in Udaipur as the grand old party tries to keep its flock together ahead of the Rajya Sabha elections. According to video clips and photographs from the Congress camp, the MLAs are enjoying cultural evenings, sports activities and magic shows at the Taj Aravali Resort and Spa.

Well known magician Aanchal’s show took place on Monday evening. “The show made the MLAs happy. The CM also attended the show,” said an MLA. In the morning, some legislators visit the gym and others take a walk in the hotel’s lush garden, which is located in a picturesque location on the outskirts of the lake city. As legislators make the best use of their stay, some play cricket and others enjoy swimming. Women legislators also engage themselves in activities like “antakshari” and the like. A movie show was also organized in the hotel theatre.

An MLA said that State Congress President Govind Singh Dotasara has also held a meeting regarding the organizational elections.

The Congress on June 2 shifted its MLAs to the resort, fearing horse-trading by the BJP ahead of the June 10 elections to the four Rajya Sabha seats from the state. The BJP has also shifted its MLAs to the Devi Ratna Hotel in Jamdoli, Jaipur, but the party is calling it a “training camp”.

In the hotel, BJP MLAs start the day with yoga and exercise at the hotel in Jaipur.

BJP is organizing sessions on the policies, ideology, achievements of the central government in the last eight years to keep the MLAs engaged. “We are conducting sessions for the MLAs in the training camp of Rajya Sabha. On the other hand people are watching what Congress MLAs are doing. Sarkar is in the hotel and having fun, enjoying the show,” said a BJP spokesperson. “People of the state are suffering, law and order is deteriorating but Congress doesn’t care about it,” he said.

Congress MLAs can come to Jaipur from Udaipur by chartered plane on Thursday afternoon. They will be shifted to a hotel on the day of polling on June 10 and taken to the state assembly.

Congress leader Mahesh Joshi has written a letter to the Chief Electoral Officer demanding action against the alleged horse-trading attempts. However, Joshi did not name anyone or any party in the complaint. He had given a similar complaint to the Anti-Corruption Bureau on Sunday as well.

The Congress with its 108 MLAs is set to win two seats in the 200-member state assembly. After winning two seats, it would have 26 surplus votes, 15 less than the 41 needed to win a third seat. Congress leaders claim that they have the support of 126 MLAs, including 108 MLAs of the party itself. The party needs 123 MLAs to win three seats.

BJP has 71 MLAs in the state assembly, which is enough to get one seat comfortably. After that, it will have 30 surplus votes, with three RLPs set to go to media baron Subhash Chandra, who has filed his nomination papers, requiring eight more votes to win the seat.
