Defense Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday said that till a few years ago, when India spoke in international forums, it was not taken seriously. Addressing an NCC event, he said that if the COVID-19 pandemic had not happened, India’s economy would have grown to USD 5 trillion by 2024. Singh, however, insisted that it would probably take another year for India to reach the USD 5 trillion target. Economy

Singh said, “India’s power has grown today. Its international prestige and credibility have increased, be it in the IT sector, education sector, business, defense or economy. India is growing in all these areas.”


“We are moving ahead in the economy. India is the third largest country in terms of purchasing power parity,” he said, adding that “we will also achieve 100 percent literacy rate in the next few years.” Noting that India earlier used to import “everything, even small arms, from abroad”, the defense minister said the country is among the top 25 defense exporters in the world.

Singh said, ‘Till a few years ago, the situation was such that when the country spoke in international forums, no one took India seriously.
He said that India is the only country which has given the message of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, the whole world is one family. “India’s culture is the best.
You would say that every country would be saying the same thing. But I can give you 20-25 examples to prove that India’s culture is the best culture.”

The Minister congratulated the NCC cadets for their lively dance performance during the ‘Vijay Shrinkhala’ program to commemorate the 50th anniversary of India’s victory over Pakistan in the 1971 war and 75th year of India’s independence.
