Rajesh Khanna watched Nishi Padma 24 times to play his role in Amar Prem

The superhit Hindi film Amar Prem starring Rajesh Khanna and Sharmila Tagore was released 50 years ago. Directed by Shakti Samanta, the film also starred Sujit Kumar, Vinod Mehra and Om Prakash. The songs of Amar Prem, including Kuch To Log Kahenge, Raina Beti Jate, released on 28 January 1972,

Chingari Koi Phatke, Yeh Kya Hua, Bada Natkhat Hai became instant hits, some of the dialogues of this movie are also quite famous. The film completed 50 years of its release today.

Amar Prem was a remake of the 1970 Bengali film Nishi Padma. The Bengali film, directed by Aurobindo Mukherjee, was based on the story of Vibhutibhushan Bandyopadhyay, Hingar Kochuri. Aurobindo Mukherjee wrote scripts for both Hindi and Bengali films.

According to media reports, Rajesh Khanna had seen Nishi Padma not once or twice but a total of 24 times to play this role. And as a result of Rajesh Khanna’s hard work, the film is much loved by the cine-lovers.

Rajesh Khanna’s performance did wonders for the audience, and it was one of the highest-grossing films of that year.

India’s first superstar Rajesh Khanna was fondly known as Kaka in Bollywood. He acted in more than 170 films in his career and some of his dialogues are still remembered today. Rajesh Khanna is best remembered for his roles in the films Aradhana, Anand and Amar Prem. He also did negative roles in some movies like Red Rose.

The legendary actor passed away in 2011.
