Schools, colleges in Rajasthan offer fee waiver amid COVID pandemic.
At a time when parents and schools are at loggerheads over the fee issue in many parts of the country, some institutes in Rajasthan are trying to make it a win-win situation for both the parents and themselves.
Working on the corporate method, they have offered discounts and other attractive offers to generate revenue for themselves and benefit the parents.
DPS Jaipur had announced to waive off 10 per cent fees on payment of full term fees by July 31 this year.
In a circular sent to parents on behalf of Aditi Mishra, school director, and Rita Taneja, principal, it was said: “If the fees for the whole year for the academic session 2021-2022 are paid, the school fees will 10 percent off, latest by July 31, 2021. We would like to inform that the parents desirous of availing the concession can do so as the last date cannot be extended.”
Another private organization Seedling School is giving 10 percent discount to parents on depositing the entire school fees for the 2020-21 session.
Vidyashram has announced 10 percent rebate in school fees for the year 2021-22.
Apart from schools, there are private universities which are giving benefits to the parents during the ongoing pandemic.
One such university is the JK Lakshmipat University which started admitting undergraduate students on the basis of class X results when class XII results were not declared.
They are giving 100% undergraduate scholarship to the students which includes academic and hostel fees on the basis of class X marks.
Their message says: “Don’t let financial constraints hinder your global education. JKLU encourages talent with ‘no-cost education’ for deserving students. Plus, meritorious students get 15 percent to 100 percent fee waivers.” (academic and hostel fee) under UG scholarship in the first year of the programme.”
The parent, Pawan Kumar, whose son got 75 per cent fee waiver on admission, said: “It is a guiding light for other universities. My son scored 92 per cent in class X and got 75 per cent fee waiver Imagine how parents will be relieved if other universities follow the same model.”
While these educational institutions are setting an example by taking care of parents during the pandemic, there are other institutions which have hiked the fees, creating challenges for the parents.
Jayshree Periwal has increased the school fees by 29 per cent for 2021-22.
Meanwhile, several parent associations have raised the demand to implement the Fee Act 2016 in the state and make fee concession mandatory in Rajasthan like other states.
Sunil Yadav, President, All Rajasthan Parents Forum, said: “We thank all the institutes who are thinking about the parents in this difficult time. However, together we want the state government to intervene when the institute tuitions exorbitantly increase fees.”
School Education Minister Govind Singh Dotasra told IANS that parents should give a written complaint in this matter and action will be taken.
