Rajasthan Royals Allrounder Rahul Tewatia

Rajasthan Royals all-rounder Rahul Tewatia admitted that he did not perform well in the first leg IPL And said that he will try to put in a better performance to take his team to the playoffs when the T20 league resumes on September 19.

The 28-year-old could only manage 86 runs and take two wickets in the seven matches he played for RR before the IPL was suspended due to multiple COVID-19 cases inside the bubble earlier this year.

“I am aware that both batting and bowling I was not performing up to the high expectations of myself,” he said in a release issued by RR.

“However, I will try to improve the output in the next seven matches that we are scheduled to play in the UAE.”

Rajasthan Royals will resume their IPL campaign after taking on Punjab Kings on 21st September.

Tewatia, who hit five sixes in an over against Punjab in the last edition, said the feat gave him confidence that he is capable of performing “extraordinarily” and that he is looking forward to the struggle.

“I’m really looking forward to it though, not just that match, but all seven matches. I like to play all my matches with the same intensity and intent, but I definitely have good memories in front of PBKS, so it feels special. It happens.”

“It also gives me a lot of confidence and confidence that I can perform like this and do anything extraordinary. My intention will always be to take the team to victory from anywhere.”

The talented all-rounder has 452 runs and 26 wickets to his name in 41 IPL matches.

“My aim is to contribute to the team’s performance and excel in the role of lower middle order batsman and finisher when it comes to batting,” he added.

“When it comes to the overall performance of the team, we won three out of seven matches, and there were some matches that were really close, so I think overall, we put in some great performances and there is a lot more. There is more to come from the team in the UAE.”

Tewatia, who spends most of the off-season at his home in Faridabad, said he has managed to address some of his concern areas.

“Bowling-wise, we identified some areas during the season where I could improve,” the leg-spinner said.

“Sometimes when you’re playing consistently you don’t realize it, but things like the position of your wrist can be accurate. So I got to really work on it and bowl with a set rhythm “

However, in terms of his batting, Tewatia said that he wants to “keep his natural game and really don’t want to make too many changes.”

“I want to keep up with my process and keep doing the things that have given me results and get my strength back.”

Tewatia said that he and his teammates have maintained their fitness level ahead of the IPL.

“I had the opportunity to train under our strength and conditioning coach AT Rajamani Prabhu and focused on my strength, speed and agility, which are important,” he said.

“I kept following the schedule at home as well, and I think if you see, the whole team has maintained fitness and I am sure it will reflect on the field as well.”

Sharing his insights on the conditions in the UAE, Tewatia said: “I think the grounds in Abu Dhabi and Dubai are a little bigger, which works for the spinners. The wickets (last year) were playing well and when you have There are bigger grounds, so it gives you more confidence as a bowler.

“However, Sharjah is clearly a small ground with a high-scoring wicket, so whoever scores more will have a better chance (laughs). The main thing is to really focus and execute your plans regardless of the size of the land.”
