Rajasthan Panchayat by-elections: More than 72% voting recorded, polling peaceful

Bypolls to vacant sarpanch seats for 34 gram panchayats in 19 districts in Rajasthan concluded peacefully on Sunday with 72.32 per cent voters exercising their franchise, officials said.

State Election Commissioner PS Mehra said that in Barmer district, the highest turnout was 92.88 percent in Gram Panchayat under Dhorimanna Panchayat Samiti.

At the same time, polling will be held in 17 wards of 15 municipalities in eight districts of the state on 26 July and counting of votes will take place on 28 July. 43 candidates are in the fray for these by-elections, the official said that the candidate has been elected unopposed in Bharatpur Municipality.
