Rajasthan: A safe haven for a new breed of Chambal ransom gangs. Jaipur News – Times of India

Jaipur/Alwar: Key Valley Chambal Waking up again, this time with only horses giving way to Baleno cars and guns.
Unlike the old-fashioned dacoits, the new breed of criminals no longer kidnap people from homes at gunpoint. Rather, they deploy female gang members to woo their targets.
Rajasthan Rajasthan And the Uttar Pradesh Police says that the vast uninhabited drains of Chambal, which run through three states, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya PradeshThe dreaded dacoits have largely been wiped out, yet criminal gangs have found the area a haven for their victims to hide.
The face of the new terror is Badan Singh, a notorious criminal wanted in over a dozen cases including kidnapping and kidnapping. On Thursday, when Dholpur and Agra police in a joint operation rescued senior Agra surgeon Dr Umakant Gupta, the police learned that Badan Singh was the mastermind of the kidnapping. He had allegedly demanded Rs 5 crore for the safe return of the surgeon.
“We are looking for other associates of Badan Singh; He is evading arrest in several cases,” said Botre Rohan Pramod, Agra (city) SP.
Sources in the Rajasthan Police said Badan was once part of a former dacoit who ruled Chambal two decades ago. Earlier, Badan had kidnapped another doctor, Doctor Nikhilo. Bansal of Agra, in 2017. Dr Bansal was later released by the gang after receiving a ransom.
“Gangs still use some old dacoity tricks like leaving extortion letters for the kidnapper’s family. But a lot has changed in their ways. For example, Dr Gupta was allegedly honey-trapped by a woman associated with the gang. A state police official claimed that a colleague of Badan had kidnapped him in his own car, which the surgeon was assigned to escort a separate group to the ravines safely.
These methods, according to the police, help the accused cover his tracks in the event where one of the gang members is arrested. Police suspect that the gangs here are heavily dependent on their extended families living in small villages around the inter-state borders of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh.
According to the Uttar Pradesh Police, in February this year, an Agra-based lawyer was kidnapped from Bhagwan Talkies at the same place from where Dr Gupta was picked up on Tuesday night. The lawyer was taken to Bari of Dholpur through Bharatpur district by another gang.
