Rajasthan: 73-year-old man dies after ‘curing’ from Omicron in Udaipur

New Delhi: A 73-year-old man, who was infected with the Omicron version of Covid-19 and later tested negative twice, died on Friday in Rajasthan’s Udaipur district.

Dr Dinesh Kharadi, Chief Medical and Health Officer, Udaipur Division told ANI, “A 73-year-old man who was tested positive for the Omicron strain of COVID on December 15, died today. Later, he tested negative twice. So, it will not be a death of covid but it can be called a death after covid death.”

MBGH Government Hospital superintendent Dr RL Suman said the man was fully vaccinated and when he was admitted he had respiratory problems and pneumonia-like symptoms.

“The person had received both doses of the COVID-19 vaccine. Prima facie it appears that this was the first time he had had Covid-19. After testing negative twice, we shifted him to the general ward, where he Bipapa mask, which is a non-invasive form of ventilator, due to his respiratory problems,” Indian Express quoted Dr Suman as saying.

Dr Suman further told that the patient’s condition worsened on Thursday night. Dr. Suman said, “After this, he was put on ventilator. Gradually his oxygen saturation decreased and he passed away this morning.”

India recorded its first death omicron The patient died on Thursday after a 52-year-old diabetic man who had recently arrived from Nigeria died of a heart attack in Maharashtra. Reports confirmed that he was infected with Omicron.

The Rajasthan government has made it mandatory for its residents to receive both doses of the COVID-19 vaccine for entry into schools, colleges, cinema halls, malls and markets from January 31. Will not be allowed to go to public places.

From January 3, 2022, all cinema halls, theaters and exhibition spaces will be allowed to function with 50 per cent capacity for those who have received both doses of the vaccine.

The guidelines state that a maximum of 200 people will be allowed to participate in all kinds of crowded public, social, political, sports related, entertainment, educational, cultural and religious functions/festivals/wedding ceremonies.
