HUBBALLI: Incessant rain since Monday night has thrown common life out of gear in north Karnataka. Heavy rain has created worries among organizers of the 75th birthday celebrations of leader of opposition in Karnataka assembly Siddaramaiah.
Gadag, Koppal and Vijayanagara district administrations have declared holidays for schools and colleges.
Davangere, where Siddaramaiah’s birthday is scheduled to be held on Wednesday, has received 0.12mm of rain till 8am. Water has gushed into the cooking sheds of the event. Organisers are worried about the success of the event. It’s learned that many Congress workers are hesitant to take part in the event as rainfall is expected till Saturday in the region. Suvarnamukhi river in the neighboring district of Chitradurga is full to the brim and Inganur villages have received 13cm of rain.
In Vijayapura, morning rain wreaked havoc submerging the low-lying areas. Drainage water is flowing on many city roads. Karnataka Neeravari Nigam Limited officials have said that water may be released at any time from the Karanja reservoir as the inflow has increased in Bidar district. Many paddy fields were submerged in rainwater in Gangavathi, Karatagi and other taluks of the Koppal district.
Yadgir, Raichur, Vijayanagara districts are also receiving incessant rains since Monday night. Almost all streams, check dams are full to the brim in the region.
