Residents complained that low-lying areas like Gandhi Market, Dadar, Hindmata, Parel, Andheri subway and Sion were waterlogged, due to which traffic slowed down.
Parts of Mumbai received heavy downpour on Thursday morning leading to waterlogging and traffic chaos in parts of city and its suburban areas. The Indian Meteorological Department has issued a ‘yellow’ alert for Mumbai as it is expected to receive moderate to heavy rainfall at isolated places, with a maximum temperature and minimum temperature to be likely around 30 degree Celsius and 24 degree Celsius respectively.
Several low-lying areas including, Gandhi Market, Dadar, Hindmata, Parel, Andheri subway and Sion were waterlogged due to fresh spell of showers leading to traffic chaos in the respective areas.
The Western Railway and Central Railway, however said that the local trains were operating normally on the routes, but some commuters claimed the Central Railway services were delayed by 10-15 minutes. Further, a spokesperson of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said there was no report of waterlogging, according to news agency PTI.
Further, Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) buses were also operating normally on their routes and no bus route was diverted anywhere in the city and suburbs due to the rain.
According to IMD’s regional office, in the 24-hour period ending at 8 am, the island city recorded an average 83 mm rainfall, eastern parts 45 mm and western areas 39 mm downpour. Colaba weather station in Mumbai recorded 51.88 of rain from 8:30 am on Wednesday to 5:30 am on Thursday. Santacruz station recorded 27 mm rain during the same period.

The IMD has predicted a high tides over 3 meters in the Arabian Sea today.
After light rainfall over the last two-three days, the intensity picked up since Wednesday evening, with more showers in the island city compared to suburbs.
In Maharashtra, moderate to heavy rainfall are likely to occur at most places over Konkan- Goa division and thundershowers are very likely to occur at many places in South Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada and at a few places over North Madhya Maharashtra on Thursday, predicted IMD. The IMD has also issued an orange alert for Palghar and Thane districts. The North Konkan division is set to receive widespread rainfall, IMD predicted.
