Rain in parts of Delhi; More showers likely on Friday

Meteorological officials said that many parts of the national capital received rain on Thursday evening. No rain was recorded by Safdarjung Observatory till 5.30 pm, but it rained late evening in areas like Akbar Road, Hanuman Road, Noida, Mayur Vihar-1, Narela, Alipore, Burari, Model Town, Karawal Nagar, Civil Lines, Dilshad. Hui. Garden, Seemapuri, Kashmere Gate, Seelampur, Vivek Vihar, Red Fort, ITO, Delhi Cantt, Palam, Safdarjung and Vasant Vihar.

According to the Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of light rain on Friday. This year’s monsoon has lashed Delhi with 1,164.7 mm of rain till Wednesday morning, the highest since 1964 and the third highest since the data maintained by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

The Meteorological Office also said that there will be thunderstorms with light to moderate intensity over Yamunanagar, Karnal, Rajound, Assandh, Safidon and adjoining areas.

“The city will remain generally cloudy with light rain or drizzle on Friday. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to hover around 34 and 24 degrees Celsius, respectively, on Friday,” an IMD official said.

The maximum temperature in the national capital on Thursday was recorded at 33.3 degrees Celsius, a notch below normal, while the minimum temperature was recorded at 24.7 degrees Celsius, a notch above normal.

IMD officials said the relative humidity on Thursday evening was 68 per cent, while it was recorded at 87 per cent in the morning.

An IMD official said the maximum temperature on Wednesday was recorded at 31.8 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature was recorded at 26 degrees Celsius.
