Rain-battered Hyderabad wades through surge of sewage | Hyderabad News – Times of India

HYDERABAD: For the third consecutive day, heavy rains disrupted everyday life across the city with several areas being inundated on Thursday. Places such as Malakpet, Alwal, LB Nagar, Begumpet, Charminar and several other parts of Old City witnessed waterlogging.
The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) received hundreds of complaints about sewage overflow due to the incessant rains, said sources. “We have coordinated with the HMWSSB officials to conduct emergency desilting works in many places in the Old City. Luckily, we did not see many complaints pertaining to uprooted trees as we had already trimmed the branches as part of Ganesh immersion arrangements,” GHMC official said. GHMC took up rain relief work in several areas.
Traffic snarls were seen at Road number 12, Banjara Hills, Khairtabad junction and Raj Bhavan Road owing to the intense rainfall.
In the 24 hours leading up to Thursday morning, Trimulgherry recorded highest 87.3mm rainfall, followed by Charminar with 65mm. Both were marked under the ‘heavy rainfall’ category, according to official data from Telangana State Development Planning Society (TSDPS). Overall, the city’s average rainfall by Thursday morning stood at 42.4mm, the second highest after Hakimpet district which recorded 74.4mm. Between 8.30am to 6pm on Thursday, the intensity of rainfall in the city reduced to moderate with Kukatpally, Balanagar and Moosapet receiving between 20mm to 30mm.
The India Meteorological Department-Hyderaba (IMD-H) forecasted rain for the next three days due to the circulation formed in the East Bay of Bengal. This is expected to become a low pressure on Friday. Orange alert had been issued for Mancherial, Nizamabad, Jagityal, Sircilla, Karimnagar, Peddapalli, Mulugu, Mahabubabad, Warangal Rural, Siddipet, Kamareddy. Adilabad, Komaram Bheem Asifabad, Nirmal, Yadadri, Rangareddy, Hyderabad, Medchal Malkajgiri and Medak have been issued a yellow alert by IMD officials.
