Rail roko protest: Many trains affected due to protesters sitting on rail tracks

New Delhi: Several rail routes were affected on Monday (October 18, 2021) as protesters staged a sit-in on railway tracks to support the six-hour ‘Rail Roko Andolan’ of the United Kisan Morcha. According to a railway official, four sections of Ferozepur division (Punjab) were blocked by protesters and the Ferozepur-Fazilka section in Firozpur city and the Firozpur-Ludhiana section in Moga’s Ajitwal were affected.

As per reports, trains in Uttar Pradesh on the Bahraich-Mailani, Bahraich-Nanpara, Gorakhpur-Mailani and Lucknow-Mailani routes were also hit.

Earlier, in a statement, the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM), an umbrella body of farmers’ unions spearheading the agitation against the three agrarian laws of the Centre, had said that the “protest will intensify till justice is secured” in the Lakhimpur Kheri case.
