Rahul Gandhi targets new health minister over COVID-19 vaccines

Soon after the new health minister took over, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Thursday asked if this will change anything and there will be no vaccine shortage.

“Does this mean no longer a vaccine shortage,” he asked on Twitter, using the hashtag “#change”.

The Congress has been criticizing the government’s vaccination policy, alleging that it is progressing at a slow pace and needs to be accelerated.

The BJP, however, hit back at Gandhi with its spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia accusing the former Congress chief of being “irresponsible” and criticizing him for doing so.

“However, we would welcome their constructive criticism,” Bhatia said.

The Congress has earlier said that the dropping of former health minister Harsh Vardhan acknowledges the government’s failure to tackle the pandemic.

Earlier, Congress leader P Chidambaram said that the first task of the new Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya is to address the shortage of vaccine as some states are facing severe shortage.
