India started the T20I series against Sri Lanka on a great note as they registered a clinical win against the hosts by 38 runs. Although the Men in Blue finished on the right side of the result, the batting unit will be disappointed with their performance in the first T20 International. Batting first, India scored a total of 164 runs under the leadership of Suryakumar Yadav.

Sri Lanka gave the Indian team early hiccups as they managed to send back Prithvi Shaw and Sanju Samson within seven overs. Shikhar Dhawan and Suryakumar then showed their flair and class as the two players forged a vital partnership in the middle.

Suryakumar was the stand-out player for India as he scored a crucial fifty. Batting at number four, the Mumbai-born shared a 62-run partnership with Dhawan. Suryakumar completed his half-century in the 16th over off Vanidu Hasaranga and was seen to settle in the middle. The Indian team was expecting a big innings from the middle order batsman so that he could put up a good score on the scoreboard.

Meanwhile, India managed to win the game as they defended 165 runs with four wickets from Bhuvneshwar Kumar.
