Rahul Dravid can raise the bar with his experience only in times to come: Ravi Shastri

Ravi Shastri claims that his successor as Team India’s next head coach Rahul Dravid will only raise the bar in times to come. Ahead of his last match as head coach, Shastri talked about Dravid’s appointment and with his experience, India will achieve great heights. He further added that the current Indian team is not in a transition phase which will help Dravid during his tenure.

“In Rahul Dravid, he has someone who has inherited a great team and I think with his experience, he can only raise the bar in times to come. There are still players here who will play another 3-4 years which is very important. It is not a team in transition and that will make the biggest difference,” Shastri told T20 WC broadcasters Star Sports.

The 59-year-old also heaped heavy praise on Virat Kohli and said that he has been Test cricket’s biggest ambassador in the last five years.

“Virat is still there, he has done a fantastic job as a team leader, he has been Test cricket’s biggest ambassador in the last five years. A lot of credit goes to the way he thinks about how he wants the team to play the game and how the team has rallied around him,” he said.

Shastri talked about the high points during his tenure as India’s head coach. He went down memory lane and recounted India’s memorable performances away from home in all three formats.

“There is a lot in all formats. But wins in red-ball cricket around the world – West Indies, Sri Lanka, Australia, England we are leading the series. This could be the longest lead in the history of cricket as the next Test is next year. To cross all these sides and beat every team in white-ball cricket – T20 or 50 overs – we have beaten the sides in their den which was my effort and the team’s effort. We were always labeled as the big punks at home, but you didn’t have stuff when you had to go out. But this team has shown they have a lot in common.”
