Rahul Dravid appointed as new head coach of Team India, will take charge from Ind vs NZ Series

New Delhi: One of the biggest positives for the future of cricket in India is that former Indian captain Rahul Dravid has been appointed as the head coach of the Indian cricket team. He will take charge from the upcoming home series against New Zealand.

Recently, Dravid was associated as the head coach of Team India in the limited overs series against Sri Lanka. After the T20 World Cup, the tenure of the current head coach of India Ravi Shastri is coming to an end. Dravid will take over as the head coach of Team India after the end of the World Cup.

With Ravi Shastri as coach, India became the first Asian team to win a Test series in Australia (2018-19) and then another series in 2020-21. India were also the first team to win all five T20 Internationals in a bilateral series, when they defeated New Zealand 5–0. Under Shastri’s guidance, India also won all seven Test series at home.

The current NCA chief Rahul Dravid has a wealth of experience and under his supervision many young NCA players have made their mark in international cricket. Reportedly, Rahul had also met BCCI President Sourav Ganguly and Sachin Jay Shah in Dubai during the IPL final.

Dravid had earlier refused to become the coach, but after several attempts by the BCCI, he agreed to it. BCCI sources told ABP News that Rahul Dravid may get a contract till the year 2023. He is currently the coach of the Indian junior team and heads the National Cricket Academy.
