Racist images lead to residential conflict – The Henry Club

Truman, Ark. (KAIT) — A Truman woman becomes horrified after her neighbor harassed her with threats and images of calling the fire department during a bonfire.

Nedra Cook has lived at Truman’s for 11 years and never had a problem until October. Her neighbors started a large bonfire next to her house, and she panicked as the flames approached her property.

“That’s when I called the fire department,” Cook said. “Even after that he did it four times and every time I would call, sometimes even the police.”

After that, neighbors made things worse, Cook said. They used to roam outside the house with guns and talk of harming her and her husband.

“I heard him talk about shooting the drive-by and coming here with his ropes,” Cook said. “That’s when my husband decided to put the camera there.”

After the camera was turned off, the conversation between the set of neighbors came to a turning point. Cook woke up one morning to find a large picture of a Confederate flag and said, “Look at it.” The photo was pointed directly at the camera and was the final straw for Cook.

“This type of action not only affects me, it affects the whole city, the whole state, the whole world,” Cook said. “It made me realize that things haven’t changed as much as people think they have.”

After this, Cook took action by filing a police report.

The authorities accused his neighbor of making terror threats. He has pleaded not guilty and will appear in court on Monday.
