Sharing a video of a rainy day, a local said, “Is there a better day breakfast than chai pakoras?”
Delhi experienced a refreshing change on Thursday, June 27, as rainfall brought relief from the scorching heat and humid weather. Noida and Ghaziabad also saw heavy showers, providing much-needed respite for residents. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the forecast for Delhi-NCR and nearby regions includes thunderstorms, light to moderate rain, isolated heavy rainfall and winds of 30-40 kmph. Additionally, IMD predicted that the official monsoon in the region would likely begin on June 28, with the minimum temperature at 28.6 degrees Celsius.
The heavy showers led to waterlogging across various parts of the city, especially Ghaziabad, Noida, Sarita Vihar and Munirka, where the highest rainfall was recorded. IMD even issued a yellow alert for heavy rain, thunderstorms and strong winds in the coming days. Amid this, locals shared their happiness on social media by posting several videos and pictures of the cool weather.
Reacting to the post, a user asked, “Is there a better rainy day breakfast than chai pakoras?”
Another shared, “After the heatwaves, finally Delhi Rains come to uplift our mood.”
“Bhai Delhi waalon ko thodi raahat mubarak ho. (Congratulations to the people of Delhi for a little relief),” a comment read.

An individual shared, “It is a much-needed rain in Noida.”
One more added, “Much Needed Respite From Extremely Hot Weather.”
As per Hindustan Times, Mahesh Palawat, vice president at Skymet, a private weather forecasting service said, “We are expecting an increase in rain intensity in northwest India from June 28 and monsoon could reach Delhi on June 29 or 30. Delhi-NCR may see heavy rainfall spell during this period, based on which the onset of the monsoon could be declared.”
The monsoon season typically begins in Delhi between June 27 and 29. Last year, it arrived on June 26, while in 2022, the first monsoon showers were observed on June 30. Until now, the national capital has been enduring extreme heatwaves, with temperatures exceeding 52 degrees Celsius. During this period, several residents fell ill, some reported that their air conditioning systems weren’t working, and tap water was boiling.
Other than Delhi, IMD has predicted heavy rainfall in states like Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana and Punjab along with several other regions.
