Madhavan is currently gearing up for the release of his directorial debut “Rocketry: The Nambi Effect”, based on the life of former ISRO scientist Nambi Narayanan, who was falsely accused of espionage in 1994.

For his first project as a filmmaker, Madhavan said that he drew inspiration from his directors Mani Ratnam (“Alapayuthe”, “Guru”) and Rajkumar Hirani (“3 Idiots”).

“I learned from Raju (Hirani) that it doesn’t need a tense set. From Mani, it was about the way the actors talk,” he said.

“Rocketry” describes Narayanan’s early days as a graduate student at Princeton University, before discovering his work as a scientist and the allegations of espionage against him.

The film, which is releasing in theaters on Friday, has been shot simultaneously in Hindi, Tamil and English. It has also been dubbed into Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada.
