R-Day Parade: DRDO will have 2 tableaux, will showcase indigenously developed warfare systems

New Delhi: Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) will present two tableaux in the Republic Day parade this year. The tableau will represent indigenously developed weapons, sensors and electronic warfare systems.

The floats are named ‘Indigenously Developed Sensors, Weapons and Electronic Warfare System for LCA Tejas’ and ‘Air Independent Propulsion System (AIP)’, which was developed for submarines of the Indian Navy.

The first tableau will showcase the indigenously developed advanced electronically scanned array radar called ‘Uttam’. It will also include five different air-launched weapons and an Electronic Warfare (EW) jammer. These technologies are expected to further enhance the capabilities of the fourth generation LCA (Light Combat Aircraft) Tejas.

The second tableau will represent the indigenously developed AIP system for underwater maneuvering of submarines of the Indian Navy. It is an indigenously developed AIP system and one of the most advanced AIP systems in the world where fuel cell technology is used to generate electricity onboard.

This would help the submarines remain submerged for longer periods of time than conventional diesel-electric submarines which would make it more efficient and quieter, ultimately helping in combat situations.

Other Tableau

This year, 25 tableaux from different states, departments and armed forces will be displayed in the Republic Day parade.

Due to the COVID-19 situation in the national capital, only 5,000 to 8,000 people will be allowed to attend the parade this year, news agency PTI reported. By 2020, about 1.25 lakh people attended the Republic Day parade.
