Quarrel over wasting water leads to man’s murder near Coimbatore | Coimbatore News – Times of India

COIMBATORE: A 27-year-old man was murdered by his neighbors at Anaimalai in Coimbatore district on Sunday evening over a quarreled over wasting water while washing clothes.
The deceased has been identified as N Dineshkumar alias Parameshwaran of Anaimalai. He was a fruit and coconut vendor. He was staying with his father Nagaraj, two younger brothers — Rajamanikandan, 25 and Arul Siddharth, 17 — and grandmother Ranganayaki, 70, in a rental house on Saravanan Doctor compound in Union Marriage Hall Street. Police said nine more families were residing in rental houses on the same compound.
On Saturday morning, Ranganayaki allegedly used more water from a common tank for washing clothes. Her neighbor T Agalya, 25, questioned Ranganayaki for wasting water and a verbal quarrel arose between them. Later, other residents intervened, and the issue was compromised amicably.
Police said Dineshkumar’s elder sister Sabareeswari, 29, came to his house and fought with Agalya while fetching water around 4.30pm on Sunday. Agalya’s husband, A Tamilselvan, came there in a drunken state and fought with Sabareeswari. Dineshkumar intervened and fought with Tamilselvan whose mother Banumathi also joined in the fight.
Agalya alerted her brother A Ragavendran, 23, and his friend Karthik of Vettaikaranpudur over the phone. The duo reached the spot immediately and their five friends joined them. They assaulted Dineshkumar. Dineshkumar, who fainted at his residence, was hastened to Government Hospital at Vettaikaranpudur in an ambulance where doctors declared him dead.
More than 20 relatives of Dineshkumar staged a road roko in front of the entrance of Anaimalai Masaniamman temple and demanded arrest of the accused. Police held talks with them and promised them that appropriate action would be taken against the murderers. Later, they withdrew the protest.
The Anaimalai police registered a murder case against ten people, including Tamilselvan, Agalya, Banumathi, Ragavendran and Karthik on Sunday night and arrested five of them on Monday. Five others were absconding.
