Qualcomm unveils its first dedicated chip for handheld gaming devices, here’s everything you need to know – Times of India

Qualcomm has launched a new chip aimed at premium handheld gaming devices. The company took the wraps off the all-new Snapdragon G3x Gen 1 gaming platform on the second day of the Snapdragon Tech Summit 2021 in Hawaii. The company’s new gaming chip is designed to create a new class of dedicated gaming devices.
The new chip is designed to deliver a smooth gaming experience by offering good thermal solutions, better connectivity, cross-platform support, better display and battery life.
This is a first of its kind chip from Qualcomm and leverages the company’s expertise in mobile gaming to deliver the best of the handheld gaming experience.
The Snapdragon G3x gaming platform brings together Snapdragon Elite gaming features and technology to allow users to play a vast library of Android mobile games and cross-platform to allow players to stream titles from PC, cloud and consoles Also supports gaming.
Qualcomm says the new platform and developer kit will enable developers to build custom handheld devices with improved performance, thermal efficiency, and offer larger, higher frame rate screens.
As already mentioned, the chip also leverages Snapdragon Elite gaming and technologies. In terms of features, the Snapdragon G3x Gen 1 brings support for gaming platform controllers, stereo haptics, better audio, 10-bit HDR for gaming, and a special Adreno GPU capable of handling 144 frames per second.
The Snapdragon G3x chip comes with FastConnect 6900 mobile connectivity for 5G mmWave and Sub-6 for ultra-fast, lag-free cloud gaming while streaming the most bandwidth-intensive games from services like Xbox Cloud Gaming or Steam Remote Play Support is included.
Apart from this, it also includes Bluetooth and Wi-Fi 6E connectivity options.
Snapdragon sound technology, like the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip announced yesterday, also comes on the Snapdragon G3x for better quality and lower latency while gaming,
Other features include AKSys support which allows precise touch to controller mapping technology to enable the use of built-in controllers in a wide range of games.
The Snapdragon G3x Gen 1 gaming platform and Snapdragon G3x Handheld Developer Kit will be the first to be available to developers allowing them to explore the full potential of the gaming platform and build titles based on it. Going forward, OEMs can leverage the new Snapdragon G3x Gen 1 chip to build gaming hardware based on it for consumers.
