Indian para powerlifter Farman Basha won two silver medals at the Asia-Oceania World Para Powerlifting Open Championship

Veteran powerlifter Farman Basha returns to winning streak with two silver medals in the ongoing Asia-Oceania World Para Powerlifting Open Championship on Thursday in Pyeongtaek, South Korea.

Basha, who has recovered from injury in the last two years, cleared the bar in all three rounds starting with 130kg, 132kg and 135kg for a total of 397kg to take silver in the men’s total score event up to 54kg. It is adequate.

He finished behind Keun Jin Choi of South Korea who won the gold medal with a total of 465kg, while Azizbek Zamirbek Uluu of Kyrgyzstan won the bronze with a total of 362kg. This was Choi’s first major medal since the 2006 Asian Para Games.

“It is good to win a medal after a long time but I hope our efforts are being recognized. My next target is Asian Para Games after which I am planning for retirement.

Basha is a three-time Asian Para Games coach and currently coaches Paralympian Sakina Khatoon, bronze medalist at the 2014 Commonwealth Games at Sai Center Bengaluru.

On Friday, Bhavna Sharma will compete in the women’s above 86kg category, while Ashok and Ramubhai Babubhai Babhava will compete in men’s 65 and 72kg.

Paramjit Kumar and Manpreet Kaur won two bronze medals on day one and opened India’s account in the regional championships.
