Nagpur: Even though the condition of roads in some parts of the city is poor, the state Public Works Department (PWD) has concrete/asphalt and widened some inter-district roads in Nagpur, Bhandara And Gondia districts at a cost of Rs 1,103 crore in the last two years. Two major roads of the city are part of PWD’s project.
According to the data available from the office of the Superintending Engineer, Public Works Department, Vidyadhar Sardeshmukh, more than 95% of the six packages sanctioned under the Hybrid Annuity Model (HAM) have been completed in these three districts. Minor works including pavement, road divider, marking etc. are likely to be completed soon.
Under six packages, 378.48 km of roads have been widened, concrete/asphalt – 136.22 km in Nagpur, 130.36 km in Bhandara and 111.9 km in Gondia.
PWD came together for the first time in 2019 to work with a large number of HAM models. Earlier it used to work only on limited roads every year due to low budget.
Under HAM, private contractors get 40% payment after the completion of the project and the remaining 60% in equal installments over 10 years. This work is to be completed in one and a half year.
Contractors will have to repair the roads for 10 years. The PWD will pay Rs 20.71 crore for the operation and maintenance of these six packages.
North Ambazari road from Rani Jhansi Square to Vivekananda Memorial and road from Ambazari T-point to Nagpur University Campus Square has been widened and concreted wherever necessary. The condition of both these roads was bad. The North Ambazari road was also heavily damaged especially after the work on the Metro Rail Corridor.
Now minor works like road divider etc. are going on between Ambazari T-Point and Campus Square.
Bhandara and Gondia districts have huge lakes, tiger reserves, religious places, water fountains etc. The roads connecting these places have been widened and asphaltised.

*Roads connecting tourist places; State border from Amgaon to Etapalli-Allapally road
* Road from Gondia to Arjuni to Gadchiroli-Chamorshi-Ashti road State border
