Ghiyaspura later turned to activism and raised several issues related to the Sikh community, such as the release of political prisoners and police inaction in sacrilege cases.
In 2015, the Shiv Sena in Ludhiana filed a case against him for wearing a T-shirt with the image of Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale. Jiyaspura, however, said there was no crime in wearing or distributing T-shirts bearing Bhindranwale’s image.
Jiyaspura joined the Lok Insaaf Party led by Simarjit Bains, which is strong in Ludhiana.
In 2019, he contested the Lok Sabha election on LIP ticket from Fatehgarh Sahib constituency and stood third by securing 1.42 lakh votes.
Giaspura joined the Left LIP and joined AAP in March 2021. He will now be one of the most vocal voices in the party on cultic issues as well if it will have a prominent Dalit face.
