Punjab polls: NDA seals seat-sharing deal, BJP to contest 65 seats, Amarinder-led PKC to contest 37 seats

The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) on Monday sealed the seat-sharing for the February 20 Punjab elections, with the BJP contesting 65 seats and its ally – the Captain Amarinder Singh-led Punjab Lok Congress – 37. Fighting for seats. Another ally of the NDA, SAD (United), led by Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa and Ranjit Singh Brahmpura, will contest 15 seats.

BJP national president JP Nadda while announcing the seat-sharing arrangement in a press conference said that Punjab needs special attention today. “BJP will contest on 65 seats, Punjab Lok Congress on 37 seats and SAD-United on 15 seats,” Nadda said. “Punjab needs special attention. This election is for stability and security. Our aim is to bring Punjab back on track,” he said.

Nadda further said that Punjab is a border state and security is a very important issue as far as assembly elections are concerned. The BJP President announced the seat-sharing agreement at the BJP headquarters in the presence of Union Home Ministers Amit Shah, Amarinder Singh and Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa.

Singh said that all the three parties have come together for national security and welfare of the state.

At the conference, Amit Shah said, “NDA under the leadership of PM @NarendraModi ji is committed to restore the glory of Punjab and the welfare of farmers, poor and downtrodden.”

During the last assembly elections in 2017, the Congress had secured 77 seats in the House of 117, ousting the previous SAD-BJP government from power. AAP managed 20 seats and became the opposition in the state.
