Punjab Police foils possible terror attack, tiffin bomb recovered

Punjab Police on Thursday thwarted another possible terrorist attack in the border state, saying they have recovered another tiffin bomb hidden in a field in a village close to the India-Pakistan border in Ferozepur district.

Director General of Police Iqbal Preet Singh Sahota said that the Ludhiana Rural Police had earlier this week arrested two persons for providing shelter and logistics support to Ranjit Singh alias Gora, an accused in the Jalalabad blast case, which has been probed by the National Investigation. being carried out by the agency. The arrested people have been identified as Jaswant Singh alias Shinda Baba, resident of Ferozepur and Balwant Singh of Ludhiana. Apart from this, Ranjit Singh alias Gora has also been arrested.

Notably Balwinder Singh was killed in a motorcycle explosion in Jalalabad town on September 15. He had a criminal background. Three accused have already been arrested in the Jalalabad blast case and a tiffin bomb, two pen drives and cash have been recovered from them.

The DGP said that during the investigation it was found that the accused had a tiffin bomb, which they had hidden in the fields.

“Following the disclosure of the accused persons, a joint search operation was conducted on Wednesday by teams of Counter Intelligence Ferozepur and Ludhiana and CIA Jagraons in village Ali of Ferozepur and tiffin bomb was recovered,” he said.

ADGP, Internal Security, RN Dhoke said further investigation is on in the case and more arrests are expected soon.

Even before this, tiffin bombs have been recovered in Amritsar Rural, Kapurthala, Fazilka and Tarn Taran in the last few months.
