Punjab Kings vs Gujarat Titans Highlights, IPL 2023: Shubman Gill, Mohit Sharma Star in Gujarat Titans Six-wicket Win

In the match since 2020, Mohit Sharma starred in the match taking 2/18 in four overs as Gujarat Titans restricted Punjab Kings to 153/8 in Mohali.

None of the PBKS batsmen could score a half-century as they struggled to get going. GT bowlers continued to keep the batsmen calm and did not let them explode with regular strike. Right after the powerplay, Rashid Khan sent back Matthew Short for 36 before Mohit Sharma removed Jitesh Sharma for 25. Mohammed Shami and Joshua Little dismissed the Punjab Kings openers cheaply in the powerplay.

Prabhsimran Singh was dismissed for zero while in-form Shikhar Dhawan managed to score eight runs. Matthew Short then led the repair damage by taking the score to 52/2 in six overs.

Hardik Pandya won the toss and decided that Gujarat Titans will field first. Mohit Sharma will make his GT debut tonight. For Punjab Kings, he has included Kagiso Rabada and Bhanuka Rajapaksa.

PBKS skipper Shikhar Dhawan was not bothered by the toss as he was looking to bowl first anyway. GT will be looking to get back to winning ways while PBKS will also hope to do better after a total collapse in their previous outing as both the teams lock horns at the Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali.

Shikhar Dhawan scored an unbeaten 99, however, he did not get the required support from any of his teammates as the Kings collapsed for 88/9 against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Dhawan steered his team to a respectable total and also captured the IPL 2023 Orange Cap, however, Aiden Markram’s side cruised to a comfortable victory.

Gujarat Titans, on the other hand, suffered their first defeat of the season against Kolkata Knight Riders due to Rinku Singh’s blockbuster heroics in the final over.

Rinku hit five straight sixes against Yash Dayal to hand KKR a 3-wicket win after Rashid Khan registered his first hat-trick of the IPL 2023 season earlier in the match.

Hardik Pandya missed the last match due to illness and it remains to be seen whether the Indian all-rounder returns to lead his team today or not.

It will also be interesting to see how Dayal fares today, having conceded 31 runs in his last over against KKR and the youngster will be hoping to prove his worth against the Punjab Kings.

As far as the head-to-head records of these two sides are concerned, both Gujarat Titans and Punjab Kings have won one game each and there is nothing to choose between them.
