LAHORE: As per the 2021 Promotion Examination Policy of the Board of Intermediate and Secondary, the managements of universities and colleges are looking for a solution to admit students who unexpectedly get full or high marks (1100) in Matriculation and Intermediate examinations. Earlier most of the colleges and universities used to give admission on the basis of marks obtained in Intermediate and Matric.

As per the policy, candidates will have to appear for optional subjects and marks obtained in optional subjects will be counted as marks for compulsory subjects.

Under the policy, candidates were required to appear in the examination of elective subjects if they wanted to improve the marks in Part I.

However, Matriculation students will have to opt for Mathematics test with optional subjects to improve their marks. “If a student fails in all the optional subjects, he/she will have to re-appear,” the notification said. Candidates passing in optional subjects will be given 50% marks in practical examination.

Dr Khalid Khan, Registrar, Panjab University told dawn They were following an open merit policy for admission to various BS programs on the basis of Intermediate and Matriculation marks.

He said that the candidates will have different marks in their matriculation which will make it easier for them to prepare the merit list.

Professor Dr Mansoor Sarwar, Vice Chancellor, University of Engineering and Technology said that all the candidates seeking admission in engineering subjects will have to appear in the entrance test as before.

He said that they will prepare the merit list on the basis of 70 per cent intermediate marks and 30 per cent entrance exam marks. “Due to the delay in results, we have extended the date of the entrance exam till October 25,” he said.

Dr. Asghar Zaidi, VC, Government College University said dawn That an entrance test and interview was mandatory for admission to BS programmes. “Only those candidates will be admitted who qualify the entrance test and interview.”

Director of Public Education (College) Dr. Aashiq Baloch told dawn The government colleges will have the capacity to admit all the students in the BS and Intermediate programs of the state.
