Chandigarh: The Punjab government on Sunday allowed reopening of schools for all classes from August 2, following proper protocols to ensure COVID appropriate behaviour.
In a fresh order, the Department of Home Affairs and Justice, Government of Punjab has written that the restrictions imposed to control and manage COVID-19 have been extended till August 10, 2021.
“All schools permitted to open for all classes with effect from 2nd August 2021 shall follow proper protocols to ensure proper handling of COVID-19,” the order said.

The School Education Department will issue instructions in this regard.
The district authorities have been directed to continue to monitor the strict implementation of “all extant instructions of the MHAState Government on appropriate behavior including social distancing, wearing of masks etc”.
COVID cases in Punjab
Punjab reported 49 new COVID cases on Friday, taking the total number to 5,99,053, officials said. Meanwhile, no COVID related death was reported.
The toll, which stands at 16,292, includes two deaths that were not reported earlier, the bulletin informed.
There are 544 active cases in the state. Of the new cases, eight were reported from Jalandhar, six from Ferozepur, and four from Ludhiana and other places.
According to the bulletin, with 55 recovering, the number of those cured reached 5,82,217.
A total of 1,20,94,239 samples have been collected for testing in the state so far.
Meanwhile, Chandigarh recorded four new COVID cases as the number of infections rose to 61,952.
The death of a 36-year-old man took the fatalities to 810.
The number of active cases stands at 36, while 61,106 people have so far recovered from the infection, the bulletin said.
