Punjab government gave jobs to the families of 11 farmers killed during the protest

The families of 11 farmers, who lost their lives during the agitation against the Centre’s agricultural laws, were on Saturday given appointment letters for government jobs in Punjab. According to an official release, Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi and Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Randeep Singh Nabha handed over appointment letters to the families of the deceased farmers as clerks.

Describing farmers as the backbone of the state’s economic structure, the Chief Minister said, “The state government will always take all possible steps to ensure the welfare of the affected families. The state government had earlier announced a financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh and a job to one member of each deceased farmer’s family.

The farmers had claimed the death of over 700 farmers from Punjab, Haryana and other states during the agitation against the now repealed agricultural laws.
