Punjab: First batch of MBBS starts in the session of BR Ambedkar State Institute of Medical Sciences – Henry Club

The session of the first batch of 98 students of BR Ambedkar State Institute of Medical Sciences began on February 14. Presently classes are going on in the sixth phase at Punjab State Health System Corporation (PHSC) building. Soon the new building of the college and hospital will be ready.

Admissions to the college were to begin in 2020, but the admission process got delayed due to the pandemic.

College Principal and Director Dr. Bhavneet Bharti told Indian Express That the college has 100 MBBS seats and 98 students have already joined the classes which started from February 14, while the remaining two students will also join in a day or two.

“Classes have already started. Presently classes are being run from PHSC building.

When asked about the hostel facility for the students, Dr Bharti said that a hostel of 64 rooms has been prepared for the students in the PHSC building and accommodation for the students has been opened. He said that along with the new building, a new hostel would also be built.

Responding to a question about the total number of seats in the college, Dr Bharti said that there are 100 MBBS seats in the college and all the seats were filled through the entrance test conducted by NEET.

Dr Bharti said that the college is also helping medical students who had to come to India after Russia.Ukraine war broke out.

“We discussed fake for students who were studying in Ukraine. We are assisting three students with their studies, and we recently had a mock discussion with them. ,

Regarding the functional department of the college, Dr Bharti said that the college had started 22 departments as per the requirement of the regulatory agency, National Medical Commission (NMC).

The college has a staff of more than 50 people which includes senior resident doctors, nurses, paramedical and other support staff.

The institute also has a 330 bedded hospital. The hospital recorded 1.30 lakh OPD attendance in the last six months.

In the last six months, 1,754 cases were registered in major operation theatres. There are separate wards for male and female inpatient admission in all specialties. The college and hospital also have physically handicapped friendly, separate parking areas and a cafeteria, and are well connected to urban and rural health centers for training graduates in community medicine.

MBBS first year student Satish Dubey told The Indian Express that his experience so far has been great and the teachers keep him busy with many extra-curricular activities besides studies.
