Punjab: Farmers attack BJP leaders in Rajpura; Party workers allege ‘state police involved’

Patiala: In an unfortunate incident, Punjab BJP leader Bhupesh Agarwal and other local party leaders were allegedly attacked by farmers at Rajpura in Patiala district today.

The leaders of the saffron party, who were assaulted, have alleged the role of the state police behind the attack, news agency ANI reported. Party workers allege that the attack was carried out at the behest of the state police.

“500 farmers beat me at the behest of DSP Tiwana. He deliberately sent me to the wrong side. No police force was with me, my life is in danger. I called the SSP several times but to no avail. DSP did not pay Did. Heed our word. They did it deliberately,” BJP leader Bhupesh Agarwal told ANI.

DSP JS Tiwana denied all allegations saying that 100 police personnel and 2 SHOs were deployed. “It is a false allegation. 100 police personnel and 2 SHOs were deployed. The development has taken place after Bharatiya Kisan Sangh leader Rakesh Tikait announced that 200 people would protest in view of the ongoing farmers’ protest near Parliament from July 22.

Tikait said on Saturday, “If the Center wants a discussion on agricultural laws, we are ready for talks. But, if the talks don’t happen or do not yield meaningful results, from July 22, our 200 people will protest near Parliament. do.” .

His remarks were in response to statements by Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar, who said the government was ready to resume talks with the protesting farmers to discuss the desired changes in the law, while asking the question thoroughly. There is an option to cancel.

Most of the farmers of Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh have been camping at the borders of Delhi since November last year to demand the Farmer Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020, the Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance. The Agricultural Services Act, 2020 and the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020 should be withdrawn and a new law should be made to guarantee the minimum support price for crops.

Several rounds of talks between farmers and the government have failed to break the deadlock.
