Punjab Election 2022: Amritsar’s twin twins Sohna-Mohana get voter ID card

Punjab Chief Electoral Officer S Karuna Raju handed over two different electoral photo identity cards to famous twins Sohan Singh and Mohan Singh, affectionately known as Sohna-Mohana, from Amritsar. The Election Commission of India had treated Sohna and Mohana as separate voters and decided to give individual voting rights to both of them.

Both Sohna and Mohana turned 18 last year. Raju said that special arrangements would be made for Sohna and Mohana so that both of them could vote separately while maintaining their secrecy. Born in Delhi in June 2003, he was abandoned by his parents. He was adopted by an orphanage in Amritsar.

Voting for 117 assembly seats in Punjab will be held on February 20 and the counting of votes will take place on March 10. Meanwhile, Punjab CEO Raju also symbolically handed over five more EPIC cards to first-time voters during the state level function. Held at the Mahatma Gandhi State Institute of Public Administration (MGSIPA) here, an official statement said. The Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Election Officer (DC-cum-DEO), who attended the event, handed over the EPIC card to the voters for the first time at the district level.

The CEO along with the Additional CEO DPS Kharbanda along with the DEO, officers also pledged to promote democratic electoral participation. The theme of this year’s National Voters’ Day is ‘Making elections inclusive, accessible and participatory’.

Raju also unveiled the poster of ‘Know Your Candidate’ mobile application, using which voters can know the details and criminal history of any candidate.
