Punjab: DRI seizes gold paste worth Rs 4 crore, trio traveling from Sharjah arrested | Ludhiana News – Times of India

LUDHIANA: Foiling a major gold smuggling attempt, Directorate of Revenue Intelligence ,DRI) regional unit Amritsar has recovered 9.20kg of gold paste worth Rs 4 crore from three youth.
The trio was arrested from Amritsar International airport after they landed there in flight from Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates on the morning of February 25. After being arrested all three youth were produced in a court which has remanded them into judicial custody.
According to a highly placed source privy to the entire operation, “The operation was executed by DRI Ludhiana’s regional unit Amritsar, the arrested passengers who are in the age group of 23-24 years had arrived at Amritsar airport at around 10 AM on February 25th from Sharjah. Trio was intercepted by DRI team after they crossed Green Channel without declaring anything objectionable in their possession. After their thorough frisking, 9.20 Kgs of gold paste was found concealed inside the headgear of all three of them and they were put under arrest. Two of the passengers are from Gurdaspur while the third one belongs to Jalandhar and one of them has past travel history abroad but two have traveled overseas for the first time.”
About three weeks ago another gold smuggling attempt from Sharjah was thwarted at Chandigarh International Airport where a passenger was arrested by Customs officials after 18 Gold Biscuits worth approx Rs. 1.03 crores concealed in the white medical tape were found from his handbag.
