Punjab crisis: The day after Sidhu, Harish Rawat meets Amarinder amid acrimonious tussle

A day after meeting state Congress President Navjot Singh Sidhu amid ongoing tussle in the state leadership, party in-charge Harish Rawat met Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Wednesday.

Sources said that during the hour-long meeting, Rawat reportedly raised the issue of discontent within a section of the MLAs and stressed the need for a ceasefire between the CM and the party chief. Sources further said that the CM was also informed about the 18-point demands that the Congress made to the people when it came to power in 2017.

Reliable sources said the chief minister is also believed to have expressed displeasure against repeated attempts by Sidhu and his supporting MLAs to “undermine” the Punjab government led by him. Rawat arrived in Chandigarh on Tuesday to try to negotiate a peace settlement between the warring camps led by Captain and Sidhu.

Sidhu continued to take a dig at the government while targeting the CM for not being able to act on the drug mafia on those responsible for the bargari fight and also fingering what he termed as corruption in the purchase of power agreements. has picked up.

While talking to the media, Rawat tried to reduce the ongoing discord within the party. He claimed that differences were being resolved and the party and the government were now focusing on the farmers’ agitation and the recent lathi-charge in neighboring Haryana.

Rawat said the high command had assured him that all possible help was being provided to the farming community and agriculture laws were being considered as to how they could be implemented with a change by passing a resolution in the assembly.

Rawat said the promises made by the Captain government in 2017 would be looked at point by point and he was confident that the Congress would come back to power in the state under Singh’s leadership.
