Thukral had also clarified that the reason for his visit was personal. “A lot to read in @capt_amarinder’s visit to Delhi. He is on a personal visit, during which he will meet some friends and will also vacate Kapurthala’s house for the new CM. No need for any unnecessary speculations,” Thukral tweeted. Later, at the Chandigarh airport, Amarinder said, “I have to go for some work for which I am leaving. I have to hand over the Kapurthala house.” He added that the media was “unnecessarily indulging in speculation”.

Amarinder Singh had said that he felt “humiliated” after resigning as the Chief Minister of Punjab. Later, he had also called Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra “inexperienced”.

He had also threatened to field a strong candidate against state party chief and his arch rival Navjot Singh Sidhu in the coming assembly elections. Soon after resigning, he called Sidhu a drama master and a dangerous man, accusing him of treating the new chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi like a “super CM,” just nodded.

According to a press statement issued by a colleague summarizing his interaction with the media, he also claimed that Punjab is now being run by the party from Delhi.

Singh had submitted his resignation minutes before the Congress Legislature Party meeting, which he had called in secret. Priyanka and Rahul are like my children. It shouldn’t have ended like this. I am hurt,” the Congress veteran had said.

He had indicated that he was still keeping his political options open, adding that he was talking to his friends before deciding on his future actions.
