Punjab Congress leaders met Harish Rawat in Dehradun, will visit Kedarnath temple today

Senior leaders of Punjab Congress met former state in-charge Harish Rawat in Dehradun today. The meeting was attended by CM Charanjit Singh Channi, PPCC chief Navjot Singh Sidhu, present Punjab party in-charge Harish Chaudhary and Speaker of the Assembly Rana KP Singh. Later the Congress delegation visited Kedarnath temple and offered prayers.

Soon after the meeting, Rawat said, “Did you see when I said that all is well in Punjab now? Everything is going smoothly, we are overcoming the challenges. I am sure this will continue. Harish Chowdhary is someone you can learn from”.

“It is leading us to victory in Punjab. Congress will win”, he added.

In stark contrast to what Rawat stood for, Sidhu shows that infighting still persists among the Punjab Congress. On Monday, Sidhu attacked politicians who offer “lollipop” just before elections and said that Punjab’s welfare comes from a roadmap and not a strategy. He was referring to the free facilities recently announced by Channi.

After the meeting Sidhu was heard saying, “I had come here to seek blessings, that I may merge my welfare with the welfare of Punjab, victory of Punjab and Punjabis. We will go to Kedarnath today.”

Sidhu tendered his resignation as Punjab Congress chief on 28 September. He was reportedly upset with the bureaucratic system and non-compliance of his orders after the cabinet expansion in Punjab. But his resignation was not accepted by the party.

Sidhu’s resignation as state party chief has intensified crisis in Punjab Congress as a minister and three Congress leaders considered close to him have resigned from their posts.

It was a major setback for the Congress, which was hoping to resolve the turmoil in Punjab’s Congress unit ahead of the assembly elections early next year.
