Punjab CM meets Home Minister, asks to break deadlock with protesting farmers

New Delhi: As farmers’ protests continue, Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Tuesday met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in the national capital and urged him to repeal agricultural laws and break the impasse.

“Meet the Home Minister @AmitShah today to once again stress the urgent need for #RepealFarmLaws and break the deadlock with the farmers who have rejected these laws. It is sad that hundreds of farmers and farm laborers have lost their lives in the fight for their rights since the agitation,” he tweeted after the meeting.

The Media Advisor to the Punjab Chief Minister said that he urged the Home Minister to intervene to resolve the farmers’ protest and repeal the agricultural laws to prevent the opposing forces from taking advantage of their anger.

He said the Punjab Chief Minister cited the social, economic and security implications of the prolonged farmers’ agitation during the meeting.

Urged Union Home Minister @AmitShah to allocate 25 CAPFs and anti-drone gadgets for BSF to effectively deal with the heightened security threat from Pakistan-based terror groups. They have also been apprised about the recent recovery of weapons involved in drone activity before August 15.”

The Chief Minister is likely to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday, he also discussed the security threat ahead of Independence Day and the upcoming Punjab Assembly elections.
