Punjab: BJP trying to gain political mileage in Punjab polls: SGPC | Amritsar News – Times of India

AMRITSAR: The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has raised strong objections to the 21-day furlough to Dera Sacha Sauda head Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh and demanded its cancellation immediately.
SGPC president Harjinder Singh Dhami on Monday said, “This decision is detrimental to the communal harmony of Punjab and should be withdrawn immediately… He (Gurmeet) is also directly linked to the sacrilege of Sri Guru Granth Sahib at Bargari. This person is the murderer of the religious sentiments of Sikhs and, sadly, the BJP government in Haryana and the Center is playing a political game together.”
Accusing the saffron party of vitiating the atmosphere of Punjab ahead of the assembly elections, Dhami alleged, “BJP is not shying away from spoiling the atmosphere of the country, especially of Punjab, for getting a political mileage in the elections.” He added that on the one hand, Gurmeet was being interrogated in a case of sacrilege, and on the other hand he was given a furlough. “BJP doesn’t want to see a peaceful Punjab, that is why Gurmeet has been brought out,” he alleged.
