Patiala: In another case of attempted sacrilege Punjabmilf in police Patiala The 23-year-old accused has been arrested on charges of attempted sacrilege in Shree Kali Devi Temple in Patiala on Monday
The incident took place at the temple at around 2.10 pm on Monday when the accused jumped from the steel fence and reached near the idol. Kali Devi Mata, After this he embraced the idol of Mata Kali Devi.
However, the accused was immediately overpowered by an on-duty pandit, who was sitting near the feet of the idol of Mata Kali Devi. The on-duty pundit pushed the accused down after which he was caught by some devotees and later by the security guards.
Police have identified the accused as 23-year-old Rajdeep, a resident of Nain Kalan village near Devigarh in Patiala district.
The police claimed that mainly the accused was booked under IPC sections including hurting religious sentiments and arrested him for further questioning. Police said the motive behind the crime is yet to be ascertained but investigation is on.
“As per the statements of the accused it appears that he is mentally unstable as he claimed that he had embraced the idol of Mata Kali Devi in faith, but we suspect the accused as he had embraced the idol of Mata Kali Devi. We had a meeting with the temple management and a thorough investigation is being done, SP City Patiala Harpal Singh said.
During this, members of the Hindu Suraksha Samiti also blocked the road near the temple in protest against the district administration and management. Kali Devi Temple Patiala,
Rajesh Kehar, vice-president of Hindu Suraksha Samiti, said, “We protested against the Deputy Commissioner, Patiala, who is the president of the temple, and senior police officers who failed to reach the spot. Only the SHO arrived to take the accused into custody. Shocking that the accused had insulted the idol of Mata Kali Devi by hugging two women devotees before hugging them. We demand the resignation of Patiala DC and the manager of the temple. The temple manager is 72 years old and unable to manage Apart from disabled activities we demand to change all security guards because there are around 35 security guards in temple who are working under security agency but never changed since last many years. There are also security guards on duty near the steel fence of one of the security guards. The idol was found absent when the sacrilege took place. The guard told the police that he had gone to the washroom at that time. It appeared to be a clear conspiracy. And the police should do a thorough investigation.”
Kali Devi temple manager Satpal Sharma said, “The accused was immediately apprehended by the on-duty pundit. Only the pundit on duty is allowed to cross the steel fence, but the accused not only jumped the railing but also pushed the idol. Embraced and that was an unholy attempt. They were pushed down before tearing clothes on the idol of Mata Kali Devi. Police is probing the matter and we hope to get justice.”
