Punjab 2022 elections: Rahul Gandhi to visit Amritsar with all 117 Congress candidates | Amritsar News – Times of India

AMRITSAR: Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will be visiting Amritsar and Jalandhar on January 27with all 117 party candidates contesting the 2022 Punjab assembly elections in tow, in an apparent show of strength and with an eye on the Hindu, Sikh and Scheduled Caste votes.
Earlier, his rally was scheduled for January 3 but it was put off after he went abroad following the Election Commission of India’s ban on holding physical rallies till January 15.
Punjab Congress Committee president Navjot Singh Sidhu tweeted Rahul Gandhi’s itinerary on Tuesday and also gave a call to Congress workers to welcome Rahul during his Punjab visit.
Sidhu tweeted, “Our Visionary leader Rahul Gandhi Ji is visiting Punjab on 27th January. Every Congress worker looks forward to welcoming him in Punjab.”
According to the program tweeted by Sidhu, Rahul would arrive at Amritsar from Delhi on a special flight between 8am to 9 am and would head for Golden Temple where he would pay obeisance and partake langar along with 117 party candidates, followed by visit to the Durgiana Temple and Bhagwan Valmiki Temple before heading for Jalandhar between 12.15 pm to 2.30 pm. One hour is ‘reserved’ for Rahul. Between 3.30pm and 4.30pm, he would hold Punjab Fateh -a virtual rally — and then leave for Adampur by road to board a special flight to Delhi by 6.25 pm.
The EC ban on roadshows and rallies for next month’s state polls was extended till the end of this month.
However, the commission has decided to allow physical meetings in designated open spaces with up to 500 people or 50% of the ground’s capacity or the prescribed limit set by the state disaster management – whichever is lower, from January 28 till February 8.
