Pune: Trained teenage horseman jumps off fourth floor of building

Pune: A 17-year-old trained equestrian who competed in various national equestrian competitions died on Sunday by jumping off the fourth floor of a building in Nanded, Pune.

The deceased has been identified as Shreya Gunesh Purandare, who was a college student and learned horse riding as a child.

The untoward incident reportedly took place at 11 am after which the girl’s family, who lives on the first floor of the building, took her to a private hospital, where she was declared brought dead on arrival.

Police said that in the preliminary investigation of the case, it seems to be a case of death by suicide.

“The girl lived on the first floor of the building located in Nanded City Township. Our preliminary investigation indicates that it is a case of suicide. Inspector Sadashiv Shelar, in-charge of Haveli police station, said he must have either jumped from the third floor of the building’s staircase corridor or from the fourth floor.

“We have not received any note or message and the reason behind his taking such a drastic step is yet to be ascertained,” he said.

The police are yet to record the statement of the family of the girl, who is currently in shock after the incident.

Police said that the father of the deceased, Gunesh, runs an equestrian training academy in Pune.
