PUNE: The crime branch of the Pimpri Chinchwad police has busted six gangs involved in the police recruitment examination fraud, following the identification of a total of 121 people and arrest of 56 among them during a six-month investigation.
The police said besides the Pimpri Chinchwad police’s recruitment examination, these gangs were also involved in the malpractices during the examinations of other police units in the state.
“Of the 56 arrested people, 31 are candidates, who had cleared the different stages of police recruitment,” additional commissioner of police (Pimpri Chinchwad) Sanjay Shinde told TOI.
Five of the suspects were taken into custody on August 22 from Jalna, Aurangabad and Beed districts, he said.
The police have seized 76 cellphones, 66 electronic spy devices, 22 walkie-talkie sets, over 100 Bluetooth devices and Rs 11 lakh from them.
The Pimpri Chinchwad police had conducted a written exam for filling up 720 posts of constables at six different districts on November 19 last year.
Senior inspector Machhindra Pandit of the crime branch said during the verification process, it was found that there was a difference in the photo in the form and the signature of one of the candidates from Aurangabad. During questioning, the candidate admitted that he had cleared the physical test through a dummy candidate. “Another candidate had used an electronic spy device during the written exam,” Pandit said.
