Pune: Runway of Pune Airport The airport will remain closed for 14 days from October 16 to October 29 for re-carpeting, airport sources told TOI.
An airport official confirmed, “The runway will remain closed from 8 pm on October 15. Flights will resume from 8 am on October 30.”
“Since the runway will remain closed, there will be no flights,” the source told TOI.
Defense sources also confirmed this, saying that the facility will open from October 30 and is expected to be operational for 24 hours.
This bandh comes at a time when the festive season is going on and people are traveling to different places for holidays. In an earlier conversation, an airport official had told TOI that a total shutdown was expected after Diwali.
The re-carpeting work of the airport’s only runway, which is primarily an IAF base, began last September. During that time, the IAF had announced that the airport would be operational for only 12 hours – only between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m., from 26 October, with the runway fully operational for 14 days from 26 April to 9 May this year. So that the work can be completed by the end of October.
