Police said the arrests were made on the basis of a complaint by Srinivas, a farmer from Bhuhalli. Srinivas Lives with his family in his ancestral house built 75 years ago.
“Srinivas met Sasikumar in 2019, when he had gone to Tamil Nadu for a wedding. Sasikumar visited Srinivas’ house in early 2020 and predicted that there was a hidden treasure. The priest told Srinivas that his family would face misfortune if he did not discover the treasure. Sasikumar promised to do so and took an advance of Rs 20,000 from Srinivas. Due to the COVID-19 lockdown and other issues, Sasikumar kept postponing the work. Two months ago, he again went to Srinivas and said they would start work,” said an investigating officer.
Sasikumar chose a bedroom in the house of Srinivas for his work and announced that the treasure was hidden under the ground. Sasikumar said, “If I worship with a naked woman in front of me, the treasure will be visible.”
Sasikumar insisted that the woman sitting in front of him should be from Srinivas’s family. However, he selected a daily wage worker who was offered around Rs 5,000, sources said.
There were reports that a four-year-old girl was brought there to be sacrificed. However, Ramanagara SP S Girish rejected the angle of human sacrifice. “The locals alerted the police about the suspicious activities of Pujari and others. The girl is the daughter of the woman,” he said.
