PUE and UOM will increase admission in colleges. Mysuru News – Times of India

Mysore: This year’s 100% result in SSLC and II PUC final examination has forced the Department of Pre-University Education (PUE) and University of Mysore (UOM) to increase admissions in colleges. In addition, two government high schools in Mysuru district will get PU sections to accommodate more students.
It may be recalled that this year, all SSLC and II PUC students were promoted due to the COVID-19 situation. After the declaration of SSLC results, huge rush was witnessed for I PUC admissions in city colleges. A similar trend is also being seen in degree colleges.
According to UOM VC G Hemantha Kumar, the intake per square has been increased by 20%. “There has been a 20% increase in the admissions allowed in colleges because of the huge rush of students,” he said. “The number of intakes varies from college to college,” he said. He informed that the demand for commerce related courses is more as compared to science and humanities.
Meanwhile, the PU department also increased the maximum limit of students per section. “Private colleges are allowed to admit 100 students per section. It was 80 students earlier,” explained DK Srinivasa Murthy, DDPU, Mysore.
Murthy said that PU sections will be opened to accommodate more students in two government high schools i.e. Government High School in Hanchaya in Mysore taluk and Koppa in Periyapatna taluk.
However, the demand for science stream is more as compared to commerce and humanities. Computer science is more in demand than biology in science combinations.
“The demand for commerce stream is less this year. Same with the biology combination. There is a huge demand for computer science in the science stream,” informed NR Manjunath, convener of Gopalaswami Shishuvihar PU College in the city.
